Pet Relinquishment
Surface Creek Animal Shelter strives to find loving and permanent homes for all animals in our care. We understand that deciding to part with a pet is an incredibly difficult and emotional decision. We recognize that life can bring unexpected challenges, and we are here to support both you and your animal through this transition with compassion and respect.
Should you find yourself in a position where you may need to relinquish an animal, we ask that you please call us to discuss your options and consider the following alternatives first.
Before You Relinquish
While we are dedicated to providing the best possible care for every animal that enters our doors, our facility has limited space. We ask that you please review the resources below and make every effort to rehome your pet independently before contacting us.
Please keep the following in mind:
-
Waitlists: Due to capacity, we may ask you to keep your pet in your home until space becomes available.
-
Relinquish Fees: We request a relinquish fee (see fee chart below) to help cover the essential food and medical expenses for your pet during their stay.
Below are examples of the most common reasons for pet relinquishment.
