Reuniting Lost Pets

At Surface Creek Animal Shelter, we know that a missing pet is a stressful experience for any family. Our primary goal is always to get your beloved companions back home as quickly and safely as possible.

Our Process for Found Pets

When a lost animal arrives at our care:

  • Microchip Scanning: We immediately scan for a microchip. If one is found, we will exhaust every resource to contact the registered owner.

  • Community Outreach: If there is no chip, we will share the pet’s photo and details on our social media pages to help find their family.

  • Safe Harbor: We provide a safe place for the pet during a mandatory holding period. If a pet remains unclaimed after this time, we will begin the process of finding them a loving new forever home through adoption.

Steps You Can Take

If you are searching for a missing pet, please reach out to us right away to see if they are in our care. We also recommend checking online databases like Petco Love Lost and local community message boards.

Reclamation Services

To help cover the costs of care, boarding, and safety during their stay, there is a $20 service fee for reclaiming a lost pet.

Please note: To encourage responsible pet ownership and ensure our resources are available for all animals in need, this fee may increase for pets that are brought into the shelter on multiple occasions.

We will do everything in our power to reunite you with your best friend.

Established in 1999, Petco Love formalizes Petco’s longstanding commitment to animal welfare. They simplify the search for lost and found pets by offering a free central location to report, search, and share.

Their database includes pets reported by individuals, as well as thousands of shelter partners across the country (including SCAS). By uploading a photo of your lost or found pet and reporting it in their system, you make that pet visible to pet parents searching for their pet – making happy pet reunions just a few clicks away.
