Without our volunteers, we could not provide the high level of services that benefits the lives of the animals in our care.
Below are some of the volunteer opportunities available. You can even help from home!
If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the contact form below and someone will get back to you A.S.A.P.
A tired dog is a happy dog! Exercise is key to maintaining a dogs well being while in a kennel.
Our wonderful dog walking volunteers are the ones who keep our dogs physically and mentally healthy. And they are pretty fit and trim themselves!
Dogs are walked every day, rain, snow or shine. We walk first thing in the morning, beginning around 8am. Two or three walkers are desirable each day to keep the time commitment to about 2 hours and the walks fairly long.
Trips to the veterinarian are a routine part of Shelter operations. Several times a week cats and dogs are taken the our vet in Eckert. Primarily these are well cats and dogs who need to be spayed or neutered. For these trips the cat or dog is picked up at the Shelter at 8am, driven to the animal clinic, the picked up about 4:30pm and returned to the Shelter.
To volunteer for transporting to the veterinarian you need for be comfortable transporting cats in carriers and/or have a means to transport dogs in your vehicle.
Cats come into the Shelter at all ages. Little ones, 6-8 weeks, can easily be socialized with a bit of cuddling from people. As the kittens approach 12 weeks that socializing becomes more difficult.
Volunteers who stop by the Shelter and spend time petting and holding the kitties are extremely important to the future of these kittens and of our adoption program.
One on one interaction with each animal is imperative and each interaction helps to build trust.
Community events, fundraisers, craft fairs, and offsite adoptions are just some of the events we take part of in order to maintain our ability to provide the best care for our adoptable pets.
None of our events would be successful without our volunteers!
Can't adopt but still want to help? Fostering is a great opportunity to temporarily care for a pet. Take a dog, puppy, cat or kitten home with you to give them some extra attention.
We supply everything you need (toys, bowls, food, etc.), you just supply the love.
We often have kittens in need of foster care.
The Shelter Shoppe is run by volunteers, and we would love to have you join us. Its a wonderful way to give back to your community. Especially to the dogs and cats who find themselves at the Surface Creek Animal Shelter.
Stop by the Shoppe and ask about volunteering. Maybe buy something while you’re there!
